07/10/11- Paula's Eating/Exercise Journal : Sunday

The impact that ole factory senses have on your mood, and how things taste is underrated.

Sour, sweet, salty, or bitter smells are studied in the Indian healing tradition called Ayurveda.  The study of ayurveda focuses on how you can connect to different smells.  They can affect different people, different ways.  For example, I don’t like the smell of cooked green peppers.  Others may love them.

According to the May, 2011 issue of Oxygen Magazine, the six tastes of sour, sweet, salty, pungent, bitter, and astringent satisfy each of the major dietary building blocks. That is why we crave different types of foods at different times.  If you can try to satisfy these different tastes, then you’re less likely to ‘binge’ on any one, since your nutritional needs are being met.

Tip of the Day:

Use a food scale to weigh the food you prepare.  Even though I do this every day, I use my food scale every day.  It’s really easy to over portion which makes your daily food calorie count, which if it exceeds your desired limit and you’re not burning the calories off with exercise, you will gain weight. (The average consumer over pours cereal by 2X’s the portion that coordinates with the posted calorie count)
